Meet Kailinn.

Director of Communications | Social Media Correspondent

As the Director of Communications, Kailinn Hairston serves as Roots Strong's Social Media Correspondent. Kailinn hails from Detroit, Michigan and is a graduate of Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with a concentration in Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience. Kailinn loves to uplift her community and does her part to advance it by supporting her previous collegiate chapter of the Collegiate Midnight Golf Program, Michigan State Chapter, continuous community service, and as a member of the Elite Epsilon Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. In addition to community service, her passions include travel, learning about different cultures, and various outdoor activities! She plans to continue her education by obtaining a Master’s degree in Public Health or Global Health, to further her career goal of becoming a doctor. In addition to becoming a doctor, she plans to further her entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavors by opening up a community enrichment center focusing on career development for youth. It is Kailinn’s dream to make a lasting impact on the world and to positively impact her community each and every day. Kailinn's role at Roots Strong will not only be integral in expanding the organization's reach but in building connections digitally as we continue to do innovative work within our communities.

I taught myself how to braid and turned it into a business in college to make extra money.

If you could fix 1-3 world problems affecting youth, what would they be?

If I could fix three world problems that the youth are facing, they would be housing, hunger, and the economy.

What are some social issues that you are passionate about?

I am most passionate about accessibility, literacy, and healthcare.

When you hear the words, “Roots Strong”, what does it mean to you?

Roots Strong to me means having a strong foundation. When I think of a strong foundation, I think of the village that supports a person and I do believe Roots Strong is dedicated to cultivating that village so that we make the individuals that make up the group are stronger, thus strengthening the whole village.
